A PostScript Printer Description file that works with a standard PS driver to describe the specific capabilities (like paper trays and finishing) of your Sharp model.
Fundamentally, a print driver acts as a bi-directional translator. The operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux) speaks in generic, high-level graphics commands (GDI, XPS, or OpenXPS). The Sharp multifunction printer (MFP), however, speaks in a proprietary page description language (PDL), typically Sharp’s version of PCL 6 or PostScript, or its modern hybrid, the Sharp Advanced Printing Language (SAPL). The driver’s primary task is to convert the OS’s drawing commands into a compressed, rasterized, or vector-based stream the hardware can consume. sharp print driver
