Missax Playing In The Pocket Fixed Guide

Imagine a musical beat as a physical pocket. When a musician plays, they are attempting to place their note perfectly inside that space. If they play too early, they are "rushing"; if they play too late, they are "dragging." When the note lands exactly where it creates the most musical impact—often slightly behind the beat (in genres like funk, blues, and hip-hop) or right on top of it (in genres like techno or polka)—they are "in the pocket."
