Alex, a huge Superman fan, couldn't resist the temptation to pop the tape into the old VCR. The room was dimly lit, with only a few flickering fluorescent lights overhead, but as the tape started to roll, Alex's eyes widened with excitement.
Apparently, the original director had been fired during production, and the studio had reworked the film to fit a more commercial vision. This workprint was an earlier, more experimental version, deemed too radical for release. superman workprint
