Lovers is a quintessential Telugu romantic comedy. While it does not offer a groundbreaking narrative, it succeeds as an entertainer due to its humor, relatable romantic conflicts, and decent performances. It remains a notable film in Sumanth Ashwin’s career and is often remembered for its comedic scenes and the catchy track "Hrudayam Ekkada Unnadhi."

Since the film is produced by Maruthi (known for hits like Ee Rojullo and Bus Stop ), the film carries his signature style of filmmaking. The comedy is the strongest asset of the movie. The first half is particularly engaging with hilarious sequences, largely driven by the supporting actors and the male lead’s plight.

The music by J.B. was a significant plus for the film.

Crucially, Siddhu has never actually met Chitra face-to-face; she is a "faceless" rival who influences his potential girlfriends—Geetha and Soumya—to dump him based on her "scientific" theories about men being "flirts". The irony peaks when Siddhu eventually falls head-over-heels for a woman he meets later, only to realize she is the very same Chitra who ruined his past romantic life.
