The purpose of this report is to clarify the structural design of the famous Astrarium created by Giovanni Dondi dell’Orologio (c. 1330–1388). Based on historical analysis of Dondi’s surviving manuscript, Tractatus Astrarii , and subsequent reconstructions, it is concluded that the Astrarium featured (dials). While the mechanism contained additional internal wheels and a central movement, the user interface for reading astronomical data consisted of seven distinct epicyclic dials arranged within a rectangular frame.
