The greatest risk of an aggressive Arms SDC is the "arms race spiral" it ignites. One nation builds a shield. The rival builds more arrows (hypersonic glide vehicles, MIRVed warheads, or nuclear-powered drones). The shield expands into space. The rival deploys anti-satellite weapons. The threshold for conventional conflict lowers, because nuclear escalation is no longer guaranteed.
