Cytherea Experiment Jun 2026

The "Cytherea Experiment" proposes a comprehensive framework for the establishment of semi-permanent human habitats within the temperate zone of the Venusian atmosphere. While the surface of Venus presents a hostile environment with extreme pressure and temperature, the altitude range of 50–55 km offers Earth-like pressure, gravity, and protection from cosmic radiation. This paper outlines the engineering constraints, biological requirements, and lifecycle support systems necessary for a buoyant modular colony. We argue that Venus, designated here by its classical epithet Cytherea , presents a more viable target for initial long-term off-world settlement than Mars due to gravity retention and radiation shielding.

The name stems from the Greek island of Cythera , the mythical birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite (Venus). cytherea experiment
