Check pipes in unheated areas (basement, crawlspace, garage, exterior walls). Look for frost, bulging, or an area that feels much colder than the rest.

Pour ½ cup of rock salt or ice melt into the drain, then follow with a gallon of very hot (not boiling) water. Salt lowers the freezing point of water and speeds thawing.
