NetFlow data can be extremely voluminous in enterprise environments.
We tested two configurations on a Dell PowerEdge R740 (2x Xeon Silver 4214, 32 GB RAM, Windows Server 2022). Flow traffic was generated using tmix (simulated NetFlow v9) at increasing rates.
While Windows Server environments are heavily monitored via WMI, Event Logs, and Performance Counters, there is a significant visibility gap regarding network traffic flow metadata. Most enterprise network devices (routers, switches, firewalls) export traffic data via NetFlow, IPFIX, or sFlow.
