The third episode of the HBO miniseries Chernobyl , titled " Open Wide, O Earth ," is a harrowing transition from the immediate chaos of the explosion to the grim, long-term reality of radiation sickness and the monumental cost of containment.
"For now," the soldier replies.
The mission begins. It is night, but the floodlights make it look like day. The air is so thick with radiation it feels like static.
We see the biorobots. Line after line. They run onto the roof. They throw the graphite. They run back. Some vomit as they exit. Some collapse. Legasov arrives
He turns to run back. He stumbles. He falls. The plastic of his suit tears against the jagged metal of the roof.
