Communication between the Depot workstation and the portable radio is established via a USB or Serial cable interface. For cryptographic operations, the radio must be placed in a specific "Depot Mode" or "Flash Zap" mode, which allows the software to bypass standard user locks and write to the secure sectors of the radio’s memory.
