The user interface was charming—music that lives rent-free in the heads of millennials—but the backend was archaic. The "Wii Points" system required you to buy currency in blocks (usually $10 increments) rather than paying the exact price of the game. If a game cost 700 points, you bought 1,000 and had 300 left over, forever trapped in Nintendo’s digital wallet until you bought something else.
