This paper argues that the laptop mouse driver has evolved from a simple protocol translator (PS/2, I2C, HID over I2C) into a and, alarmingly, a privileged attack surface . We analyze three key facets: (1) the real-time constraints of interrupt-driven vs. polling-based architectures on modern I2C buses, (2) the security implications of driver-level keylogging and touchpad DMA attacks, and (3) the performance paradox where overly aggressive palm rejection algorithms induce "phantom dead zones." We conclude by proposing a formally verifiable micro-driver model for input devices.
