Remain on your side for 5–10 minutes to let the oil soak in.
Wipe away any excess oil from the outside of your ear with a clean cloth or cotton ball. Do not insert anything into the ear canal.
Place a small amount of olive oil in a clean container. Warm it slightly by putting the container in a bowl of warm water (not hot). Test a drop on your wrist – it should feel neutral, not hot.
Place a tissue or towel over your outer ear, then gently turn your head to let the oil and loosened wax drain out.
