The game takes place in the Sengoku period of Japan, during the civil war between various daimyos. The story follows Rikumaru and Kazuma, two ninja from the Iga region, who are hired by a mysterious client to carry out a series of assassinations. As they progress through the game, they uncover a plot by a powerful daimyo, Lord Matsumoto, to overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate.
