This is the biggest downside. CoC 2 is updated frequently by the developers (Savin and Fenoxo). When the game updates, the underlying code for save files often changes. Using an outdated editor on a newer save file can corrupt the data, rendering your progress lost. You must back up your saves before using the editor.
