The story is set in the quaint, dusty village of Budhbodiya. It centers on Billu (Irrfan Khan), a poor barber struggling to make ends meet. His shop is dilapidated, his tools are rusting, and his financial situation is dire. He lives a life of quiet desperation, loved by his wife Bindiya (Lara Dutta) and children, but marginalized by the village elite.
