The Four Seasons’ rise was meteoric. After signing with Vee-Jay Records, a small, independent label, they released "Sherry" in August 1962. It shot to #1. Before the song even fell from the charts, "Big Girls Don't Cry" (another #1) followed. Then "Walk Like a Man" became their third consecutive #1 in early 1963.
The group's core originated in Newark, New Jersey, in the early 1950s. The key figures were (later Frankie Valli) and Tommy DeVito , a local guitarist.
