The game is set in a Norse mythology-inspired world several years after the events of the previous games, which were based on Greek mythology. Kratos, now living in the wilderness of Midgard (the Norse equivalent of the human world), resides with his son Atreus. The pair embark on a perilous journey to spread their wife/mother's ashes from the highest peak in the realms.
