The primary manifestation of Fourth Gear is "Boundman" (Bounce Man). Visually, the transformation is jarring; Luffy’s torso swells, his limbs become disproportionately large, and his eyes take on a predatory glint. The form fundamentally changes Luffy’s combat style. In his base form, Luffy is a brawler; in Fourth Gear, he becomes a bombardier. The constant bouncing makes him incredibly difficult to grapple, and his ability to change direction mid-air—using a technique akin to Geppo (Moon Walk)—grants him temporary flight.
Arguably the most refined form, introduced during the fight against Charlotte Katakuri. Snakeman sacrifices raw power and size for blinding speed and unpredictable attacks. luffy 4th gear
Drawing inspiration from the giant, muscular warriors he encountered (and the Colosseum fighters of Dressrosa), Luffy developed Gear Fourth by inflating his rather than his bones or blood vessels. He achieves this by biting into his arm and blowing air directly into his muscular tissue, then coating the entire form with Busoshoku (Armament) Haki . The primary manifestation of Fourth Gear is "Boundman"
As Luffy’s journey continued, he demonstrated that Fourth Gear is not a single state but a versatile framework. During his battle with Charlotte Cracker on Whole Cake Island, he revealed "Tankman" (Full Version). By consuming an enormous amount of biscuits, Luffy expanded his size to grotesque proportions. This form prioritized defense over mobility; when Cracker attacked, Luffy’s Haki-coated belly absorbed the impact and used the enemy's own force against them, trapping them in a rubbery prison before launching a devastating counterattack. In his base form, Luffy is a brawler;
Offensively, Boundman is overwhelming. The signature attack, "Kong Gun," sees Luffy compress his fist into his forearm before firing it. The resultant impact is massive, capable of bypassing the defenses of high-tier enemies who previously shrugged off his attacks. The use of "Python" allows him to change the trajectory of his punches mid-flight, rendering dodging futile. This form was specifically designed to conquer the giants of the New World, providing Luffy with the raw destructive output necessary to shatter Doflamingo’s String-String Fruit defenses and, later, to combat the Emperor Kaido.
