: Joe believes that for a relationship to progress, there must be a "Minimum Shared Vulnerability." He carefully curates a story about his childhood and his "complicated" past with his mentor, Mooney, to make Beck feel safe enough to open up to him.
: Obsessively analyzes every interaction to ensure he is presenting the "perfect" version of himself. He views "MSV" as a tool of manipulation rather than genuine emotional connection.
Joe is not a professional killer yet. He spends most of the episode driving around with Benji’s rotting body in his trunk. The "maybe" of the title refers to Beck’s uncertainty about Joe, but it also applies to Joe’s survival; he only escapes detection through sheer luck when the police question him about his suspicious purchases.
